RIDE FOR WRATH, RIDE FOR RUIN...
It's coming up to the end of January. I've been pretty good this month and only added a couple of minis to the slopes of Lead Mountain. I picked up a beautiful raccoon hunter sculpt from Fenris Games and the latest gnomish star player for Blood Bowl. How restrained...
That said, I've been plugging away at half starting various projects that now litter my desk, making it a minefield of gaming bits and bobs that my cat, Zelda, loves to walk through. I've prepped an alternative to GW's Provisionally Prepared ratling sniper diorama mini out of some Wargames Atlantic sneak feet that I picked up on the front of a Miniature Wargaming mag the other month, which I'm excited to paint up. I also finally got around to building the MDF scenery from within the Sláine miniatures game boxed set — a bloody fiddly set of huts and fences, half od which I broke while I put them together. I've also had a crack at building one or two of the Victrix minis I picked up for my Lord of the Rings projects to get a feel for their scale and what sculpting work I might need to do for them. I see lots of winged Gondorian helmets in my future.
While my desk gets swamped by my distracted brain seeking small dopamine hits here and there, I have managed to crack on with my Rohirrim and get all of the Warriors of Rohan minis painted by before the end of the month rolls around! A significant achievement for someone who flits from project to project. I am pretty happy with how they turned out too, given that I was testing out the "Double Slapchop" method that has been doing the round on YouTube and trying to crack them out at speed. They aren't my best painting, but they are going to look smashing all together on the table. And I'm good with that. Plus, the bases really to bring them all together (my favourite part of the process, really).
Having polished those off, I've only got Eomer to paint and that'll be the battleforce polished off. And that would be another major achievement — a complete box done and dusted. But, well, you know, I've popped that aside for now so that I can have a little break and paint up this awesome Warduke from Forge of Ice minis, and another you can get from Fenris Games.
I'm setting myself a challenge with this one — I'm painting it using only the paints in the Rogue Hobbies Signature Series set, plus a black and a white, and mixing all the colours I need up myself. So far, I've really been enjoying this process. I can get the colours I want and I am really, really happy with the skin tones and the blues for the armour that I've managed to achieve so far. Hopefully, next time I'll be able to show of the finished article.
The climb continues...
